What is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?
SIL is NDIS funded support for the everyday tasks of living in your own home, such as personal care, cooking, cleaning, medication and building daily living skills. It can be delivered 24/7 or as drop-in support, in a shared home or on your own. Learn more about our SIL support.
Who is SIL for?
SIL is for people whose NDIS plan includes funding for it, usually people who need a significant amount of daily support to live as independently as possible. Your NDIS planner or Support Coordinator can help confirm whether SIL is right for you.
What is the difference between SIL and SDA?
SIL is the support, the people who help you day to day. SDA, or Specialist Disability Accommodation, is the building, a purpose built accessible home. Many people have both: SDA pays for the housing, and SIL pays for the support inside it.
What is an Individualised Living Option (ILO)?
An ILO is a flexible NDIS home and living option that helps you live the way you choose, often with informal supports such as housemates or host arrangements, rather than a traditional shared SIL home.
How do I find a SIL vacancy with Pursue Ability?
We list our current vacancies on our vacancies page and on Housing Hub. Call 0272276310 or submit a referral and we will match you to a suitable home.
Can I choose who I live with?
Yes. Housemate compatibility matters, so we work with you, your family and your coordinator to match you with housemates and a home that genuinely suit you.
How is SIL funded and who pays?
SIL is funded through your NDIS plan under Core Supports, so you do not pay for the support out of pocket. You may pay board and lodging or rent for the housing separately, the same as any tenant would.
What areas do you cover?
We provide NDIS support across 14 regions of NSW, including Newcastle, the Hunter Valley, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens, the Central Coast, Sydney, Port Macquarie, Dubbo and Tamworth. See all areas we service.
Do you support people with complex or behavioural needs?
Yes. We have real experience supporting people with complex, high intensity and behavioural support needs, working closely alongside behaviour support practitioners and allied health.
How do I refer a participant?
Support Coordinators, families and participants can all refer. Submit a referral online or call 0272276310 and our team will respond with the next steps.
How quickly can you take on a new participant?
It depends on the support needs and current vacancies, but we pride ourselves on responding quickly. Get in touch and we will tell you honestly what we can do and when.
Can I switch to Pursue Ability from another provider?
Yes. Changing providers is your right under the NDIS. We can guide you through a smooth transition and coordinate with your current provider and Support Coordinator.
What does a Support Coordinator do?
A Support Coordinator helps you understand your NDIS plan, connect with the right supports, and get the most out of your funding. Learn about our Support Coordination.
What is Community Access support?
Community Access support helps you get out, take part in activities you enjoy, and stay connected with your community. Learn more about Community Access.
Do you provide Allied Health?
Yes. We offer allied health including Occupational Therapy and Behaviour Support, so you can have your support and your therapy under one team. Learn about our Allied Health services.
