What is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is one of the most significant and impactful supports available under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). It provides funding for the support a participant needs to live as independently as possible in their own home — whether that is a shared house with other participants, or an individual living arrangement. SIL funding covers the cost of the support workers who assist participants with daily living tasks, personal care, building life skills, and participating in their community — not the cost of the accommodation itself.
At Pursue Ability, our SIL service is built on a simple but powerful belief: every person with disability deserves to live in a home that feels genuinely theirs — safe, stable, comfortable, and surrounded by a support team that is truly invested in their progress. Our rostered support workers deliver person-centred, trauma-informed care around the clock — helping participants build real independence, develop daily living skills, and pursue the life they choose, every single day.
Whether your participant needs intensive 24/7 SIL support, more flexible drop-in SIL, or a tailored combination of both — Pursue Ability has the experience, the team, and the properties to make it happen, often within just 2 days of approval.
Move-In Ready in 2 Days
New SIL arrangements can be sourced and activated across NSW and QLD within just 2 days — no long waiting lists.
NDIS Registered Provider
Fully registered under the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission and assessed against the NDIS Practice Standards.
24/7 Support Available
Round-the-clock active and sleepover support for participants with high-intensity or complex overnight support needs.
Goal-Centred Rosters
Every SIL roster of care is built around the participant’s individual goals — not standard templates or generic schedules.
Our SIL Support Options
Pursue Ability delivers a full range of Supported Independent Living arrangements to suit participants across all disability types, all support levels, and all living preferences across NSW and QLD. Every arrangement is tailored, flexible, and built around what works best for the individual participant.
🕐 24/7 Supported Independent Living
Our 24/7 SIL service provides round-the-clock support for participants with high-intensity, complex, or significant overnight support needs. This includes active overnight support, sleepover arrangements, and continuous rostered care — delivered by trained, consistent support workers who know your participant well and are invested in their progress. Pursue Ability’s 24/7 SIL service is particularly suited to participants with psychosocial disability, complex behavioural support needs, or significant physical disability requiring ongoing personal care and supervision throughout the day and night.
🌟 Drop-In Supported Independent Living
Our drop-in SIL service provides flexible, scheduled support visits for participants who are building their independence and do not require continuous 24/7 care. Support workers visit at agreed times to assist with daily living tasks, personal care, meal preparation, medication management, and community participation — giving participants the support they need while fostering genuine independence and self-direction. Drop-in SIL is ideal for participants who are progressing toward greater autonomy and want to maintain control over their daily routines and lifestyle choices.
🏠 Shared Supported Accommodation
Our shared SIL arrangements place participants in carefully matched shared homes with other participants — creating a supported community environment that balances independence with companionship and peer connection. Pursue Ability manages all aspects of the shared living environment including compatibility matching, house management, rostered support, and property maintenance coordination. Every shared property is safe, homely, and designed to feel like a genuine home — not an institution.
👤 Individual SIL Arrangements
For participants who prefer to live alone or with family, Pursue Ability delivers individual SIL support in standalone properties across NSW and QLD. We work with participants, families, and support coordinators to source appropriate housing, design personalised rosters of care, and deliver consistent, high-quality support in the participant’s own private living environment. Individual SIL arrangements give participants maximum choice, control, and privacy while ensuring they receive the support they need to thrive.

How SIL is Funded Under the NDIS
NDIS Supported Independent Living funding is one of the most significant funding allocations in an NDIS plan. SIL is funded under the Core Supports — Assistance with Daily Life budget and is approved by the NDIA following a thorough assessment of the participant’s support needs and home and living goals. It is important to understand that SIL funding covers support costs only — not rent or accommodation costs, which are the participant’s responsibility.
- Core Supports — Assistance with Daily Life (01) covers the cost of support workers delivering your SIL roster of care.
- SIL funding is approved by the NDIA based on a SIL assessment, a proposed roster of care, and evidence of the participant’s support needs and goals.
- Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is a separate NDIS funding stream for eligible participants requiring specialist housing — our team can assist with SDA applications.
- Independent Living Options (ILO) is an alternative to SIL for participants who want more flexible, self-directed living support arrangements.
For more information on SIL funding, visit the NDIS official website. Our team can help you understand your participant’s SIL funding options and prepare a strong case for approval.
