Not everyone wants to live in a traditional shared SIL home. The NDIS has a more flexible option called an Individualised Living Option, or ILO. Here is what it is.
ILO is about living the way you choose
An ILO is a home and living support that is designed around you: where you live, who you live with, and how your support is arranged. It puts your preferences at the centre.
How is it different from SIL?
Traditional SIL often means a shared home with rostered support staff. An ILO can use a mix of formal and informal supports, such as living with a housemate, a host family, or with support from people already in your life, topped up with paid support where needed.
Two stages of ILO funding
ILO usually has two parts: first, funding to explore and design the right arrangement for you, and then funding to put that arrangement in place and maintain it.
Who is ILO good for?
ILO can suit people who want more independence and choice than a group home offers, and who have or can build informal supports around them.
