NDIS news this week: SDA funding, SIL enforcement and December prices
Four NDIS updates since our last round-up: SDA funding now appears in full in plans, SIL registration enforcement has started, the Justice Advisory Panel advice is out, and four household support prices rise on 1 December. Here is what each one means.
1. SDA funding now appears in full in NDIS plans
From 19 October 2026, the full amount of Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) funding a person is eligible for is included in their NDIS plan when it is approved. This applies whether the person is already living in SDA or still looking for an SDA home. It does not change SDA eligibility decisions, the amount a person is eligible for, or how providers claim.
Most people do not need to do anything. Anyone with a $1 placeholder, or less than their full eligible amount, will have it updated at their next plan reassessment. People moving into an SDA home may be able to have it updated earlier through a change of circumstances, and must tell the NDIA when they move in.
What to do: If you are moving into an SDA home, let the NDIA know and ask about a change of circumstances. Our supported independent living page explains how SIL and SDA fit together.

2. SIL registration: enforcement has begun
On 26 October the Minister for the NDIS, Senator Jenny McAllister, said the transition period for unregistered SIL providers ended on 1 October and the NDIS Commission has begun targeted compliance and enforcement action. More than 14,500 SIL providers are registered or progressing through registration.
Providing SIL after 1 October without having applied for registration is a serious offence. Penalties listed in the release include up to two years in prison and a 120 penalty unit fine (over $40,000), or a civil penalty of up to 10,000 penalty units (currently $3.64 million). The Commission can now compel non-compliant providers to hand over information within five days instead of 28, and site visits have started.
What to do: If you or someone you support receives SIL, check that the provider is registered or has applied. Pursue Ability is a registered provider. See our supported independent living homes.

3. Justice Advisory Panel advice published
On 29 October the NDIA published advice from its Justice Advisory Panel, an expert group set up in September 2024 to improve outcomes for people with disability who interact with the justice system. The four advice papers call for clearer understanding of the roles of the NDIA and NDIS supports, earlier information sharing, better provider capability and safeguarding, and earlier, coordinated support for young people.
What to do: If you support someone in contact with the justice system, read the advice papers. Our support coordination team can help families work out how NDIS supports fit alongside other services.

4. Four household support prices increase from 1 December
From 1 December 2026, the maximum prices for four NDIS support items will increase, following the Fair Work Commission’s decision to lift wages for workers covered by Schedule E of the SCHADS Award. At the national hourly rate:
- House or Yard Maintenance: $59.01 to $63.42
- House Cleaning and Other Household Activities: $60.10 to $64.59
- Assistance with Personal Domestic Activities: $61.16 to $65.73
- Specialised Home-Based Assistance for a Child: $61.16 to $65.73
The new prices apply to supports delivered on or after 1 December. Item numbers and claiming are not changing, and providers must use the price that applied on the day the support was delivered. Providers must discuss any change to an existing service agreement with the person they support, who must agree before it is made. An updated Pricing Schedule will be published on 1 December.
What to do: If you receive any of these supports, your provider should talk to you before changing your service agreement. Providers should plan that conversation now.
